Currently a large amount of research is carried out by renowned institutions on the relationship between shear stress, plaque growth and plaque vulnerability. Using computational fluid dynamics the shear stress on a specific part of the vessel wall can be calculated. Shear stress could have an important role during diagnostics and the interventional treatment of patients with coronary artery disease.
